What is a step team?

A step team is a group of individuals who perform a percussive style of dance known as stepping, which involves stomping, clapping, and spoken word chanting. This style of dance began in African American fraternities and sororities, but has since spread to high schools, colleges, and universities across the United States. Step teams often compete in regional and national competitions, where they are judged on a variety of factors, including choreography, creativity, technique, and synchronization. Stepping is also a popular form of entertainment at various events, such as halftime shows, cultural festivals, and community gatherings. Many step teams incorporate elements of hip hop and other styles of dance into their performances, making the art form a unique blend of traditional and modern movements.
